Ode to LaLuna is a Filipina Symphonic Metal Band known for their combination of symphonic and rock-metal style and their all-female lineup.
The band consists of Selina on keyboard, Iah on guitar, Yue on drums, Sin on bass and Ishtar on vocals.
History
Originally named La Luna, the band was formed in 2007 at the initiative of Selina and Chandra. The original lineup consisted of drums, bass, keyboards, two guitars and one vocalist. After the departure of several of the original members, Iah joined the band, soon followed by Yue. It was at this point that the music shed its ethno-rock origins and leaned toward rock and metal with aggressive beats brought into the band by Yue. The band changed its name to Ode to LaLuna as there are other acts using the name La Luna.
MoonBreak
In 2010, the band began recording its first album, MoonBreak at Tower of Doom. The album was released in August 2011. It contains 12 tracks, 7 of which, had been composed prior to the band's formation. These tracks are
Holy Grail, Sayaw, Haunt, Kadiliman, Sa Ilalim ng Lupa, Angel (With a Broken Wing) and Luna. Their arrangements were changed to suit the current sound of the band as well as the other 5 tracks in the album, composed subsequent to the band's forming. These tracks are Tempest, Bloodrain, Last Ball, Howl and Anino.
Themes
As the name of the band implies, the band has adopted symbolisms related
to the moon into its music and performance. Each member of the band has to take on a translation of the word moon or any word related to lunar mythology as her stage name.
Also related to lunar symbolism is the femininity the band wished to imbibe. The band consciously represents and expresses female personas and perspectives in its music and performance and through its individual members.
